Five great goodbyes
So, as I mentioned in the L Word recap this week, today is my last day as an staging-afterellencom.kinsta.cloud staffer. (I just have a new job; there’s no big drama here.) I’ll miss this place! To commemorate the day (yes, I’m commemorating myself — so?), here are some goodbye scenes and songs that say farewell better than I ever could.
The Way We Were, final scene
It’s the laughter we’ll remember. And the greatness of Barbra.
Casablanca, “We’ll always have Paris”
We’ll always have staging-afterellencom.kinsta.cloud. Somehow that doesn’t have the same ring to it.
The Carol Burnett Show, “I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together”
She’s a genius. I’m tugging my ear.
The Wizard of Oz, “You’ve always had the power”
Everyone loves the heel-clicking, but Dorothy’s speech just before that is even better.
The Sound of Music, “So Long, Farewell”
I love this movie. I love Julie Andrews. I love nuns who sabotage cars and play guitars. And when the audience sings “goodbye” back to the kids, I get a little choked up. I can think of no better note to go out on!
And here’s one more goodbye: So long and thanks, everybody. Drop me a line (scribegrrrl at gmail.com) once in a while. And expect me to show up here again from time to time, wondering what I’ve missed and whether Queen Latifah has come out yet.
P.S. I still don’t know whether I’ll have time to do the recaps for the final season of The L Word — I’ll have to see how things go. And no amount of cajoling or promises of Bette Porter on my doorstep will hasten my decision. OK, maybe that last thing would.
