Olivia Mullins and Amanda Balling, from Amazon Prime’s Tampa Baes, have tied the knot! The pair met in the first season of the lesbian-focused reality show and recently announced that they secretly got married back in July, 2021.
The love birds wore matching wedding outfits: white pants and a crop top with a white blazer and sneakers. They switched into shorts for the reception so they could twerk and swing around stripper poles. And yes – Olivia wore her ankle monitor for the big day!
“I’m so proud to call you my wife @amanderballing,” Olivia wrote on Instagram.
Captioning a video on Instagram, Amanda wrote, “This has been the absolute best year of my life. I got to marry my best friend and my soul mate. @imoliviamullins You are the most beautiful girl I have ever met in my entire life- inside and out. This has been the hardest secret to keep. I can’t wait for all of our adventures to come. I love you so much baby. Kisses to my Mrs 😘😘.”
When a wedding was teased after the last episode of Tampa Baes season one, we all thought it would be Marissa and Summer, who got engaged on set. Or, for the lesbian drama, their rival-couple, Haley and Brianna, could have beat them to the nuptials. I wouldn’t put it past the competitive power couple.
But Olivia and Amanda? It’s such a sweet surprise! The pair were resident party girls, with Olivia even getting a DUI on the show. They were the queens of casual, but we saw them fall deeper in love every episode. I wouldn’t expect anything less than for them to wake up one day, decide it’s time they got married, and go through with the thing – ankle monitor or not!
Olivia is someone you simply can’t resist rooting for. Coming from Jemison, Alabama, she moved to Tampa Bay, Florida, to find a sense of belonging in a more gay-friendly area. On the show, she discusses the loss of her mother in 2014, and that her dad didn’t make much of an effort thereafter. She’s trying to heal the trauma of losing her mother and stumbles into substance abuse and reckless behavior to cope.
Olivia and Amanda making their own family is heartwarming because it is exactly what Olivia, and I presume Amanda, needs: someone to care for, lean on, and love for the rest of her life.
It’s true that Olivia had the support of best mate and fellow cast member, Melanie Posner, before Amanda came along, and I hope she remembers that now she is a devoted wife.
Mel spoke to Showbiz CheatSheet about the day Olivia called her from jail after getting a DUI: “I mean, I was heartbroken, like absolutely heartbroken,” she said. “A couple months prior to the DUI, Olivia was dealing with a lot, and I felt like in the last month or two, she was, you know, really bettering herself. She was kind of getting out of that toxic lifestyle. So to know that that happened, it was just a really, really sad moment for me.”
Mel was shocked when Olivia and Amanda started a relationship, let alone got married: “There was, you know, so many girls for months she really didn’t want nothing to do with them. She kind of, in a sense, has like a player mentality. It felt like she couldn’t find anyone she was attracted to, and so then, you know, out of nowhere Amanda came, and they were so obsessed with each other.” Posner noted, “they’re perfect together. They really, really are.”
We are still waiting on whether Tampa Baes is renewed for a second season yet, but we hope it is so we can follow the newlyweds’ love story a while longer!
