It’s no secret that Kristen Stewart loves her privacy, and rightfully so. Whether it be taking her time to publicly come out, or a secret marriage proposal, Kristen carves out space for a life outside the tabloids, managing to remain in control of who knows what about her life, and when they know it. So, we’re a bit shook that Kristen recently disclosed she would happily “go and get married this weekend,” to her fiancée Dylan Meyer.
Kristen wants to get married ASAP and isn’t into all the bells and whistles. On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Kristen says, “I want to have a big party or something… I’m so unceremonial.”
Teasing elopement, she continues, “I think we might just go do it this weekend or something, I don’t know, and then, like, just hang out with everyone afterward…I just want to do it!”
“I don’t plan. I like to pivot. You never know where I’m going, man,” she says.
Kristen has made a habit out of releasing such information in interviews on television shows like The Late Show. It was on The Howard Stern Show that she announced her engagement to Dylan Meyer: “We’re marrying, we’re totally gonna do it.”
Perhaps making announcements in these interviews is only natural, considering she’s never considered joining social media. “I know I sound ridiculous and really obvious; everyone says this, and I sound like an older person, but we could be doing way cooler shit. It’s so time consuming,” she said to Harper’s Bazaar back in 2016.
While Kristen being cast as Princess Diana in Spencer was a shock to many of us, Kristen’s performance in the film has been put forth as a nomination for the Golden Globe Awards this year. “She’s begging to be spoken about,” Kristen said about connecting with Diana through the role.
Once you see the portrayal, it makes sense why Kristen was cast. Like the type of wedding she describes wanting in the interview with Stephen Colbert, she’s able to divide the private from the public to manage a semi-normal life.
Kristen’s flighty and freedom-loving. She’s private and unpredictable. She’s never been completely comfortable in the spotlight. She’s always a touch nervous. She shares many characteristics with Princess Diana. She portrays her in an unglamorous, real, “non-ceremonial” way.
Kristen loves doing things on her own terms. It is out of character for her to blatantly state the intention to get married “this weekend,” due to her desire for privacy, but she’s simply reminding Stephen Colbert and the audience that, like the proposal, the marriage will come at any moment and the press likely won’t know about it. When will it be? Who knows!
